French Ambassador visits Lumbini and Tilaurakot

French Ambassador to Nepal Virginie Corteval paid an observation visit to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, on Friday.

She visited the Mayadevi Temple, Pushkarani Pond, archaeological ruins and Ashoka Pillar in Lumbini. Similarly, she also visited the Royal Thai Monastery of the Theravada sect and the Thousand Buddha Temple of the Mahayana sect. She also visited the Lumbini Museum.

The Ambassador was welcomed by Dr. Haridhwaj Rai, Chief Information Officer of the Lumbini Development Trust. Rai then briefed the Ambassador about the Lumbini Development Master Plan, historical and archaeological significance and conservation efforts.

Ambassador Kortewal said that Lumbini is the best place in the world for those who love religion and philosophy and seek peace. “We should all work together to protect and promote such a place,” she said.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Elsa Caille, Deputy Chief of Mission of the French Embassy, ​​and Sylvain Chouin, Director of the French Language and Cultural Center (Alliance Française) in Nepal.

Similarly, the delegation including the ambassador also visited Tilaurakot (ancient Kapilvastu), the capital of the Shakya dynasty and the place where Prince Siddhartha spent 29 years. The ambassador returned to the capital today.
