Deputy Mayor of Thakurbaba Municipality Binakumari Bhattarai said that the municipality organizes a large-scale blood donation program every three months as part of its regular program so that no patient dies prematurely due to lack of blood. “The district has a large Tharu community, there are sickle cell thalassemia patients here, and they need a lot of blood transfusions,” said Deputy Mayor Bhattarai. “The collected blood is sent to Gulariya, Nepalgunj, and Kohalpur blood banks, and if blood is needed, it is immediately provided free of charge to patients undergoing treatment in the hospital.”
In the blood donation held at Ranipur Covered Hall in Thakurbaba-2, 94 people, including Mayor Lamsal, Deputy Mayor Bhattarai, donated one pint of blood each. 13 women and 81 men donated blood, said Chhabilal Lamsal, Chairman of the Nepal Volunteer Blood Donation Society Thakurbaba Nagar Committee.
The blood donation program was organized with the support and coordination of organizations including Nepal Red Cross Society, Blood Circulation Center Banke, Nepal Volunteer Blood Donation Society Thakurbaba Nagar Committee.
