2,883 tourists have entered Bardiya National Park to visit it during Dashain and Tihar. The Bardiya National Park has stated that the largest number of them are domestic tourists.

The park's information officer and senior assistant conservation officer Sarojmani Poudel said that 2,193 Nepali tourists, 558 foreigners and 133 from SAARC visited the park during the same period.

In the fiscal year 081/082, 28,068 domestic and foreign tourists visited. This is 2,000 more tourists than in 080/081. The park reported that 19,100 Nepali tourists, 1,540 from SAARC and 7,518 foreigners visited the park in the last fiscal year.

Bardiya National Park, famous mainly for tigers, is a major destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Dharmaraj Ghimire, the operator of Bardiya Tiger Resort, said that 40 percent of the bookings by foreign tourists were canceled due to political turmoil. 'Nepali tourists are satisfied because it is the Dashain and Tihar season,' he said.

The main entrance to the park is Thakurdwara. With adequate facilities such as hotels, transportation, etc., tourists enter through the park headquarters at Thakurdwara. Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Chairman of the Tourism Development Forum, Bardiya, said that tourists from SAARC countries have increased. He said, ‘The tourist traffic is relatively low, we are confident that the tourist arrival will increase in the winter season.’

Officer Poudel says that most tourists return after seeing the tigers. ‘There are 125 tigers in the Bardiya park,’ he said, ‘It is estimated that there are 120 elephants. Similarly, there are 38 rhinos.’ Some of these rhinos have reached the Katarnia Wildlife Reserve in India on the border.

Tourists visiting the park go on jeep safaris and on foot. There are more than 30 hotels and 20 homestays outside the Bardiya National Park. Apart from the park, tourists visit places like Dalla, Pattharbojhi, and other places on the Khata Biological Trail, the park said. Apart from this, tourists visiting the park visit the crocodile breeding center, the Tharu Museum, the blind rhinoceros, and the cage where the endangered tiger is kept.
