Three people died on Wednesday evening after drowning in a river during the immersion of Durga idols installed during Dashain.
Rupandehi Police Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Suraj Karki said that 13-year-old Ajay Harijan, 15-year-old Deepu Harijan, and 28-year-old Rohit Harijan of Mayadevi Rural Municipality-1 died while immersing a Durga idol at Suryapuraghat in Gaidahawa Rural Municipality-6 of Rupandehi.
According to the police, the villagers had gone to Santeshwor Ghat in Suryapura, the confluence of the Danav and Kanchan rivers, to immerse the idol. After they went missing in the river, the police and local residents started a search operation.
During the search, the bodies of all three were found about 200 meters below on Wednesday evening, Pranav Karki said.
