Zinnia traders in Palpa have said that they have not been able to produce as per the demand during Tihar this time. During Tihar, traders here are earning a lot of income by selling zinnia.

Rudranarayan Shrestha, a resident of Rangbhang in Rampur Municipality-5, said that despite the high demand from customers and traders during the festival, it has not been able to meet the demand. He has experienced that the demand has increased due to the recent increase in the custom of sisters giving jhiniya to their brothers as auspicious gifts during Tihar.

'Businessmen are finding it difficult to produce, they just have to produce, there is no problem in business, the industry is selling it in droves, it is difficult to meet the current demand,' he said.

Entrepreneur Shrestha has been doing jhiniya business in Rampur for the past decade. He is the first businessman in this area. Shrestha's wife Lakshmi has been continuously supporting him in his business. Lakshmi said that since the festival is fast and the rains are long, it has been difficult to produce during the festival as it has not been possible to prepare it in advance compared to previous years. This business run by Shrestha has also provided employment to six people.

Entrepreneur Rudranarayan said that the turnover of this festival will be around 6 lakhs. According to him, the jhiniya produced here is being consumed in various places including Palpa, Syangja, Tanahun, Nawalpur, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Chitwan.

Bishnu Saru of Rampur-4 Sirjanachowk said that it is difficult to keep up with the market demand this time. He has been producing jhiniya continuously for three years. Saru said that he has emphasized on commercial production as it brings in a lot of income.

Since the jhiniya can be purchased at home, the entrepreneur does not have to go to the market for sale. The retail price per kilogram is 100 and the wholesale price is 90 rupees. Nowadays, the attraction of the jhiniya business is increasing as it can be earned from home with little investment in a short time.

As its demand in the market is increasing, it has become easier for entrepreneurs. Since there is no need to bother with production and it is a source of income from home, jhiniya is being taken up as a business in the villages.

It is customary for sisters to give jhiniya as a gift to their brothers after applying tika on them during Tihar. Nowadays, its use as a snack is also increasing. Apart from Tihar, its use is increasing in various festivals and auspicious events including weddings, fasts, pujas, Maghe Sankranti, Teej and other festivals. 'Earlier, jhiniya was not available in sufficient quantities in the market. It was customary to make jhiniya for household purposes only with a small key that was turned by hand during Tihar. But nowadays, as it is available everywhere in the market, making jhiniya at home is not done as often as before. That is why the number of customers who go to shops and industries in the market to buy jhiniya is increasing,' said Saru.

As jhiniya generates a lot of income, women are increasingly attracted to this business. Since you can run a business from home with little investment, it is not difficult to make a large investment. Saru has experience that the produced jhiniya can be stored safely and sold at any time since it does not spoil quickly.

After the village has access to transportation facilities, it is easy to transport jhiniya to the market. After finishing household chores in the morning and evening, women have earned their living by producing jhiniya in the afternoon.

Jhiniya is prepared by cooking rice flour and making it into jhiniya with the help of a machine. Jhiniya, which was previously made only for Tihar, is now being traded at other times as well. Jhiniya is also taken as a household snack.
