More than 6 dozen electric vehicles are being produced from Gulmi

The number of electric vehicles has increased dramatically in the hilly district of Gulmi in the space of one and a half years. The number of electric vehicles plying for commuting from Tamghas, the district headquarters, to Butwal, including in rural areas of the district, has increased dramatically in a short period of time.

Maitri Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. and Angan Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. have formed a committee to operate electric vehicles. Gulmi Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. and Paschim Nepal Bus Entrepreneur Pvt. Ltd. have also operated electric vehicles.

Maitri Yatayat has 30, Gulmi Yatayat 27, Angan Yatayat 19 and Paschim Nepal 5, 81 electric vehicles have been operated in Gulmi. Vehicles leave for Butwal from rural areas of the district in the morning and from the district headquarters Tamghas every hour. Electric vehicles are also leaving for the district headquarters Tamghas and villages every hour from Butwal.

Gopal Thapa, Chairman of Angan Yatayat Pvt. Ltd., said that vehicles are running from Simaltari, ISMA and Tamghas to Butwal from morning to evening. He also said that the fare has been fixed at Rs. 600. Angan has invested Rs 120 million in electric vehicles, including hotels and charging stations.

‘There are charging stations in Tamghas, Argali and Butwal,’ he said, ‘We are training drivers in traffic coordination and operating them systematically.’ Angan’s 11 and 16-seat vehicles are running hourly between Tamghas-Butwal and Butwal-Tamghas from 5:30 am to 3:30 pm. All of these vehicles are operated through a committee. There is collective investment in this.

Maitri Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. is operating hourly between Tamghas-Butwal from 5 am to 5 pm, fixing a fare of Rs 590, said Tilachan Pandey, a member of the company. Maitri has 14 and 19-seat vehicles. Maitri has invested in this multi-purpose cooperative organization, Maitri Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. has a committee, while the vehicles are private. Even though they are personal vehicles, they are being operated through committees.

Investor Tilachan Pandey claims that Maitri has many facilities for passengers and introduced electric vehicles for the first time in the district a year and a half ago. ‘We brought electric vehicles for the first time in Gulmi, and now it has increased in popularity,’ he said, ‘Our Maitri has many facilities for passengers.’

Maitri Yatayat has free Wi-Fi, GPS service, CC camera connection and free drinking water. Members of Maitri Multipurpose Cooperative have a 10 percent discount on fares. Maitri is bringing 7 vehicles with a capacity of 19 seats soon. The vehicles are in operation with an investment of Rs 150 million in Maitri.

Gulmi Yatayat is also operating the Tamghas-Butwal service at a fare of Rs 600, said Office Chief Dol Bahadur Kunwar. He said that Gulmi Transport has also invested Rs 115 million. Gulmi Transport is operating 11 and 16 seat capacity vehicles from the villages of Gulmi.

Paschim Nepal Bus Entrepreneurs Pvt. Ltd. is currently operating 5 electric vehicles in Gulmi. In which an investment of more than Rs 20 million is being made. The electric vehicles operated in Gulmi are CG Company's Kinglon, CG's KYC and Swasti Group's Jalna vehicles.

Gulmi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mrigendra Prasad Shrestha said that investment has entered the district and travel is becoming easier for citizens. 'Recently, there has been a wave of electric vehicles, and it has also increased in Gulmi,' he said, 'When there is healthy competition, passengers get service, it has become much easier than before.' He said that the suffering caused by the limited number of diesel and petrol-powered vehicles in Gulmi has been eliminated with the increase in the number of electric vehicles.
