Only 186 of the 570 prisoners who escaped from the district jail in Nawalparasi West on 25th of August have returned till Thursday. On the morning of August 25, all the 570 prisoners escaped from the prison after rioting and shouting slogans.

According to Jitendra Choudhary, the information officer of the prison, 570 people were kept in the prison that could hold 175 prisoners. When four times more prisoners were kept than the capacity, the prisoners escaped by rioting. On the 24th and 25th of August last year, during the Zen-ji movement across the country, prisoners escaped from various prisons in the country. Taking advantage of the weak security system, the inmates of the district headquarters, Parasi, escaped early in the morning on the 25th. Most of the prisoners were involved in extortion and fraud cases.

There are 20 security personnel in the prison. After rioting in the prison at that time, the prisoners escaped and a team of Nepalese army came and is currently providing security. Choudhary informed that after contacting the homes of the absconding prisoners, they have been ordered to return them to the jail immediately.

During the prime ministership of the then KP Oli, when social networks including Facebook were closed all over Nepal, the Gen-G group, belonging to the age group of 13 to 28 years, protested all over the country. During that movement, prisoners escaped from prisons across the country taking advantage of the weak security situation. The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered all escaped prisoners to return to prison immediately.
