Three people have been arrested on the charge of embezzling more than 37 crores in Nepalgunj's Cooperative Financial Development Institution. The president of the cooperative Hardevbax Chaudhary, Siddikumar Maharjan and Surat Khatik were arrested.
President Chaudhary has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of 50,000. He was previously imprisoned for a year and released on a bail of 2.5 million. Chowdhury, Maharjan and Khatik were arrested after the High Court Tulsipur, Nepalgunj bench upheld the decision of the district court.
The court has found 19 people guilty in the cooperative scam. Seven of them have been imprisoned and fined. Others are absconding. Even those who have served prison terms and fines have yet to pay their bills. The court sentenced the offender to imprisonment, fine and fine. On October 28, 2076, a case was filed in the District Court on Cooperative Act, Fraud and Organized Crime.
On 26 January 2080, the bench of District Judge Indra Bahadur Kathayat found 19 out of 41 people guilty.
