The Integrated Check Point (ICP) established at Belhia checkpoint in Siddharth Nagar-1 of Rupandehi is going to be operational from October to provide necessary security checks and other facilities for tourists entering from India and other countries from a single point.
The point was put into operation one and a half years ago for the convenience of tourists coming from third countries including India. Such a service was started at the customs point to reduce the harassment faced by foreign tourists in the name of security and checks. The then Home Secretary Eknarayan Aryal inaugurated it. At that point, after completing security checks, stickers were given to vehicles carrying tourists. After seeing the said sticker, security was not checked in other places of the district.
The all-party meeting held on Tuesday in the district administration has decided to bring the service into operation again from the integrated check point from October 1st. Chief District Officer (PRA) Tokaraj Pandey informed that after discussing the challenges and problems encountered in the operation of the integrated check point, it has been decided to organize the check point and continue the service for the convenience of the tourists. Division of work has also been done between government agencies and municipalities for its implementation.
According to Pragya Pandey, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Transport in Lumbini Province has agreed to manage the necessary manpower for that point, coordinate with the necessary agencies and provide stickers and arrange the necessary resources. The district administration has said that security, effective management and coordination as well as regular monitoring, evaluation and coordination will be carried out.
Siddharthnagar Municipality has agreed to build the necessary infrastructure for the check room, provide proper management of drinking water and sanitation, beautify the border area and provide resources as needed. After the inspection, the district-based security agency has taken responsibility for issuing stickers, providing necessary manpower for the inspection, and inter-agency coordination. Bhairahawa Customs Office said that the premises will be beautified and customer-friendly structures will be constructed.
"Furthermore, a committee has been formed under the coordination of the district coordination chief to monitor the services provided from the check point," said Prazia Pandey, "The committee consists of the city chief, chief district officer, state tourism secretary, police chiefs and Bhairahawa customs chief."
