The Krishnanagar Municipality has started taking action against the people who throw garbage in the Krishnanagar market, the country's oldest market and major commercial center. Fines are being collected from those who throw garbage indiscriminately and make the market smelly and unsightly.
With the aim of making Krishnanagar market clean, tidy and green, an action campaign has been launched since 28th July last. Ishwari Paudel, Head of the Municipal Revenue Branch, said that till August 4, 31 people were punished and fined 26,000 rupees.
The person found for the first time has been fined from 500 to 1000 rupees. He said that according to the municipality's littering procedures, 2075, if a person who has paid a fine for the first time is found to be littering for the second time, the fine will be doubled.
The campaign was launched after the bad message started spreading by throwing garbage in houses, courtyards and roads in the border market, Rajat Pratap Shah said. He has appealed to everyone to make the campaign worthwhile as it is an important work for the identity of the entire city dwellers.
Along with Krishnanagar, this campaign has also been run in the historical and old bazaar Bahadurganj Bazar. All businessmen, big and small, will be brought to action.
Municipality has been sending tractors daily for garbage collection. Similarly, sanitation workers have also been mobilized. But as the tendency of the locals to litter the roads and drains has increased, the municipality has requested to improve the habits and introduce civilized citizens. The municipality has mobilized 6 city policemen to enforce proper waste collection and management. According to the garbage procedure of the municipality, 2075, there is a provision to charge a fine of up to 15 thousand rupees.
On the other hand, notices have also been issued to Kawad businessmen to arrange their goods and keep them inside their compounds. The municipality has requested 7 days time to organize the collection, storage and sale-distribution business under the Kawad business within its own land/compound by publishing a notice last Tuesday.
