The fear of leopards is increasing in Gularia, the capital. Leopards are constantly preying on livestock around the Gularia market.
On Friday night, after breaking down the cage of Mohammad Hanif Ansari of Gulria Municipality-8 customs tol, the leopard ate two chickens. Shahida Bano Ansari, the victim, said that Ansari was going to sell a large khasi for around 25,000 rupees, but when things did not work out, the unsold khasi was eaten by a leopard. She said, 'We can't put up a barbed wire. It has become difficult to protect small children from the leopards that enter the settlement every day.'
Earlier on last June 26, three goats tied in the cage of Awadharam Lodh of Gulria-8 Surajpur, three goats of Him Bahadur Pun of Surajpur were eaten by leopards in the second week of June. In this way, the leopards that roamed the slums have affected poor families more and even killed dogs.
According to Hamid Idrisi of Customs Toll, the leopard has been seen in the settlement for the past one week and has also been caught on CCTV. "Despite continuous leopard sightings, the Divisional Forest Office showed no interest," he said.
Ramu Lodh of Gulria-8 said, 'If the forest office does not show interest, the risk of human casualties has increased.' Ward president Dharmendra Kumar Banian requested the relevant agencies to take immediate action to control leopards.
In the last financial year alone, four people including a woman, two girls and a boy were killed and 13 people were injured due to leopard attacks in different places including Gulria. In which two girls from Gulria lost their lives.
