A sickle cell anemia and thalassemia screening machine for newborns has been installed at Bheri Hospital Nepalgunj in Banke.
This machine named "HPLC" was installed for the first time in Nepal. Nirajan Subedi claimed.
The machine given by the state government was installed by an engineer from India, he said. According to him, children under the age of 16 months had not been tested for sickle cell disease. He said, 'After this machine is put into operation, sickle cell test will be done in newborns. Sickle cell is checked by drawing blood.'
According to Mesu Dr. Subedi, sickle cell patients are still being treated in Veri. Free check-up, 6-bed separate ward for blood transfusion for patients, 10-bed ward for admission, drug support program worth 1 lakh from the poor is being done.
