The Siddhartha Highway, which was blocked since Wednesday morning due to a landslide with stones, has been opened in one way. Although the highway has been opened in one direction, the danger remains, police said.
According to the police, the Palpa-Butbal road section under the highway was blocked since Wednesday morning by a landslide with large stones due to the rain that fell during the night.
Under the road section, Tinau rural municipality-3 of Palpa, near Dobhan headbox, the road was blocked after a landslide occurred around 2 am. According to the District Police Office, Palpa, the police, the Siddhababa Tunnel Project and the road division's dozers removed the landslide and opened the road.
The road is one-way due to landslides in other parts of the highway. A landslide near Dobhan headbox under Siddharth highway has been removed. After removing the landslide, the vehicles have been sent to their destination on the road.
When the highway was closed, all the vehicles on the north-south highway were stopped. After the landslide cleared, vehicles traveling to the Terai from Syangja, Pokhara, Baglung, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi and various places in the district have been sent to their destination.
Even before this, the road was blocked several times due to landslides in the Dobhan area of the highway. On Tuesday, one person was killed and another was injured when a motorcycle was washed away by a landslide.
Landslides remain dangerous on the highway
Palpa's Tinau Rural Municipality 5, between Churchre and Gaudepul three years ago, Siddharth Highway is at risk due to not being controlled in time.
Due to the lack of timely attention of the road division Palpa in the management of the landslide from the Siddharth highway to Dumrekhola, the vehicles have to operate on the road in one direction only.
After the landslide was not managed in time, plastic has been laid under the leadership of the district administration office for a month to protect the highway. Locals informed that there is a fear that all the roads will fall into the river as soon as the rainy season starts because the landslide control work is not done on time.
Locals complain that if the road division Palpa had done the landslide control work on time, there is a possibility that the road would have been saved. If the builders had done the construction immediately after the contract, the road landslide could have been stopped.
Road Division Palpa had signed a contract six months ago to repair roads at various places on Siddharth Highway. Bhagwati Construction Butwal was awarded a contract with Rs 42 lakh estimate to manage landslides in the Churchre area.
