199 incidents of sexual violence in Bardia in one year

It has been found that 199 incidents of sexual violence have been reduced in the district during a period of about one year. From July 1st to June 19th of the financial year 081/082, 199 cases of sexual violence have been found to have decreased.

The data was released on Friday in the annual review of the One Door Crisis Management Center (OCMC) at Bardia Hospital.

From July 081/082 to June 19 of the current financial year, a total of 199 people, including 8 men and 191 women, were subjected to sexual violence and received free services through OCMC, said Sapna Batha Magar, contact person of the hospital OCMC.

"120 victims of violence have come to OCMC themselves, 71 from the police, 5 from NGOs, 2 from the health post, and 1 from the service center," she said.

Rape 34, sexual abuse 17, beating 44, child marriage 89, deprivation of the right to live 1, mental torture 13 and 1 other people seem to be affected by sexual violence. 

Gulria 88, Bansgadhi 9, Barbardia 18, Madhuvan 31, Thakurbaba 5 and Rajapur Nagarpali 15 people are seen to have been subjected to sexual violence, while Geruwa 9 and Baghaiyatal 16 have been subjected to sexual violence and taken service in OCMC. Similarly, 5 from Banke, one each from Surkhet, Jumla, Rukum seem to have been subjected to sexual violence. The data of OCMC has confirmed that most of the eight municipalities have incidents of sexual violence in Gularia. 

OCMC is working with the aim of providing free healthcare, mental and psychosocial counseling, legal treatment, protection, shelter and rehabilitation services to victims of sexual violence and contributing to violence control. 

Chief District Officer Surendra Paudel said that since sexual violence is more common in Gularia, public awareness should be spread through coordination. "It is important to pay attention to whether the victims have been able to come to OCMC from other municipalities," Prazia Poudel said, "The incidents of violence should not be hidden in the society and brought under the law."
