After overnight rains on Tuesday, the highway was blocked due to silt. In this section of the Mahendra Highway, which is considered the lifeline of the country, despite normal rains, passengers are suffering.
According to Police Inspector Rajan Timilsina of Ela Police Office Dumkiwas, the highway has been blocked since last night when a cargo vehicle got stuck near the three under-construction culverts east of the Vishwakarma temple in Downe.
The cargo vehicles that were stopped from 1 o'clock on Tuesday night have not been able to go to their destination yet. He said that despite trying to operate small vehicles, there are problems due to mud.
Timilsina said that the vehicles could not leave due to the shaking on the highway. "Because vehicles cannot go uphill (towards Butwal) due to mud, I am arranging a route for vehicles going from west to east," he said.
China State Engineering Corporation, the contractor in charge of the construction of the highway on the 14-kilometer stretch, did not work on time, and now the potholes on the highway have become a problem. The company that got the contract to widen the highway is not working at a fast pace in Daunne, so the vehicles get stuck during the rainy season.
Diversion road washed away
The diversion road constructed 6 months ago due to the broken iron bridge of Binayi river in Dumkiwas has been washed away again last night. This is the fourth time that the diversion has been carried out in the last 3 weeks.
"The diversion was built yesterday evening, it was washed away again by the flood of the night," Police Inspector Timilsina said, "When the river floods, the dirt road will be washed away."
