Among the VAT payers registered in Internal Revenue Office, Nepalgunj, 2,200 taxpayers have been suspended.
Purnaprasad Neupane, head of Internal Revenue Office, Nepalganj informed that the value added tax payers of around 2,200 were suspended because they did not provide the details.
'Those who did not explain the details have been suspended and the business of the organization has also been stopped', he said. The Internal Revenue Department has been suspending taxpayers who have not submitted their VAT returns for six months.
There are more than eight thousand taxpayers involved in value addition in Banke. Chief Neupane informed that the department was suspended for neglecting to know that the tax payer should submit the tax return.
He clarified that although before this action was not taken when the law was unclear, now that the law and rules are clear, the action of suspension will continue from now on. "No business should be done with suspended farms, it will cause problems for those who do business," he said. Earlier, the department had made public the names of taxpayers who had not submitted tax returns for six consecutive months in accordance with sub-section 8 of section 17 of the Value Added Tax Act, 2052. The VAT registration of such taxpayers has been suspended.
