A 1-day free health checkup and treatment camp has been organized by Advocacy Forum Nepal at Jayendu Balsudhar Home in Asmanpur, Duduwa, Banke.
Advocacy Forum working in the field of Juvenile Justice conducted the health camp in collaboration with Banke District Court, Jayendu Children's Home and Bheri Hospital Nepalgunj, Lions Club of Nepalgunj Jeevan.
Out of total 217 children in the correctional home, 120 have received health examination and medication services. Apart from this, others have been referred for health counseling and 3 people have been referred to Bheri Hospital for further treatment.
Dr. Dr. Senior Dermatologist working in Very Hospital in Health Camp. Asmita Gautam, Dr. Janak Devkota and Hospital Nursing Inspector Bashundhara Gyawali provided health services.
During the health checkup, most of the children who were in legal dispute in the Jayendu Children's Reform Home were found to be infected with skin disease, informed Basant Gautam, Lumbini Province Coordinator of the Advocacy Forum, which coordinated the health camp.
During the health check-up, most of the children were diagnosed with ringworm, fungal infection, dandruff, scabies, scortal eczema, piles, and eczema. Asmita Gautam informed.
120 people have received health services with direct medicines from the health camp. Apart from this, some other children have consulted about reproductive health and hygiene.
Doctor Janak Devkota informed that other than skin disease, 3 other people were referred to Bheri Hospital for further treatment.
Banke District Court Judge Bhishmaraj Prasai has said that it is the responsibility of the state to protect children in correctional homes. Inaugurating the health camp, Judge Prasai said that the punishment will be determined based on the seriousness of the crime.
While presenting their complaints at the health camp, one of the children complained that the punishment is more than the proportion of the mistake, and the discount that the children get is wasted. Addressing the complaint, Judge Prasai said that the court must also abide by the law.
There are 217 children in the correctional home, 36 are between 14 to 15 years old, 137 are between 16 to 18 years old, and 47 are 18 years old. According to the case count of the 217 children in the children's correctional home, there are 100 cases of rape, 3 cases of forced labor, 1 case of theft, 13 cases of drug use, 23 cases of homicide, 5 cases of homicide, 3 cases of carjacking, 11 cases of robbery, human trafficking and sexual intercourse 1, 2 cases of forced sexual intercourse, 12 cases of rape, 7 robberies, 7 cases of robbery, and 1 robbery.
