Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chetnarayan Acharya, has called upon all concerned parties to prepare for the monsoon disaster.
Addressing the Lumbini state-level integrated exercise Hatemalo-7 program held at Lamhi Municipality-6, Madhyanagar on Friday, Chief Minister Acharya said that the state government is committed to intensifying preparations to reduce the damage caused by monsoon disasters.
``No disaster comes with advance notice . Therefore, we should always be prepared,'' said Chief Minister Acharya. Helps to give new life to people . He clarified that the government will pay attention to ensure that there is no shortage of materials needed for search and rescue under the disaster response. He also informed that the government is serious about modern equipment and materials management by using local resources, search and rescue materials will be provided to all the three security agencies. In addition, he said that due to the fact that disaster response can be made effective through cooperation with the local level and the community, special attention will be paid to the active mobilization of the community.
This year Lumbini province is predicted to be more affected by the monsoon disaster and the provincial government has made preparations a top priority. According to the 'Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan, 2082' published by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Lumbini Province is seen to be most affected this year. According to estimates, 523 thousand 656 people of 19830 households in Lumbini are likely to be affected.
According to the data of the last 10 years, 1 thousand 618 incidents of monsoon disasters have occurred in Lumbini province. In those incidents, 459 people died, 619 people were injured and 32 people went missing, while 8,315 families were affected.
According to Gangadhar Pandey, Disaster Focal Person of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the highest number of incidents occurred in the year 080 with 292 and the highest human loss in the year 2073 with 107 deaths. Last year, 53 people died, 70 were injured, 9 were missing and 109 families were affected due to floods, landslides and heavy rains in Lumbini province. At that time there was a loss of Rs 54 crores. In the
program, Head of Lamhi Municipality Jograj Chaudhary said that the support and cooperation of all the three security agencies in the disaster response has helped to reduce the damage . On this occasion, the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police conducted an integrated exercise 'Hatemalo-7' and presented the practical aspect of search and rescue operations according to the situation during the disaster. Chief Secretary of Lumbini Province Baburam Adhikari, former Commander of Nepal Army Midwest Pritna Headquarters Prem Bahadur Pun, Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Lamsal, high-ranking officers of Nepal Police and Armed Police, public representatives, Red Cross workers, students, teachers and community citizens were present in the program.
