The Lumbini state government has decided to dissolve all 14 hospital development committees in the state. The government's Cabinet meeting held on 16th Baisakh decided to dissolve the Hospital Development Committee on the proposal of the Ministry of Health.
Earlier, the government had appointed presidents in 14 district hospitals, including two provincial ones, on October 7, 2080, in order to assist in the management of hospital operations. In the first week of November 2080, a writ was filed in the Supreme Court against the presidents appointed by the Congress-led government with Maoist support. President of Lumbini Regional Hospital Ajayman Shrestha, President of Rapti Regional Hospital Padamprasad Neupane, President of Pyuthan Hospital Vijayaviraj Bista and President of Rukettam East Hospital Fakumari Vali filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding that the appointments made by the government led by UML leader Leela Giri be unfair to them.
The Supreme Court on 19th November 2080 issued a writ of execution and ordered that the decision of the nomination of Lumbini State Government from the Chief Minister level on 7th November 2080 should not be implemented and should be kept as it is. After the order, four hospital presidents returned to work. Provincial Health Secretary Durgalakshmi Shrestha announced on Monday that the provincial government has decided to dissolve the development committees of all 14 hospitals, including the 4 that have been reinstated by the court. The ministry sent a letter to the hospitals on Monday informing them that the development committee has been disbanded. According to
sources, the government has decided to dissolve the development committees on the recommendation of the meeting of the social and infrastructure committee of the provincial assembly, as the presidents of the Congress-Maoist alliance remained in place in the hospitals other than the 4 that were reinstated by the Supreme Court. According to the new alliance of UML-Congress, the government is preparing to form hospital management committees.
Chairman of Lumbini Regional Hospital Development Committee, Ajayman Shrestha, said that although the development committee was formed to coordinate between the government, the hospital and the people and nominate the chairman and members to make the service delivery smooth and efficient, the decision to dissolve it after the change of government was wrong. "It is a wrong trend for you to come from the private sector and support the operation of the hospital and then be removed or disbanded after setting a date," he said. Accordingly, he said that his appointment will continue until 2nd of Baisakh 2083.
There are Lumbini Regional Hospital in Butwal in Lumbini and Rapti Regional Hospital in Tulsipur in Dang. Along with them, there are district hospitals in 12 other districts. Dinesh Panthi, spokesperson of the government and Minister of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, said that the development committees of all the hospitals have been dissolved simultaneously. "The government will start the process of new appointments within a few days," he said, "keeping in mind the service delivery of the hospitals, they have now been dissolved."
