Cheetahs started entering settlements in search of food

According to Dhanesh Godia of Tepri, the locals are scared because leopards kill goats, dogs and other animals. Conservationists say that leopards have started entering the settlements as the food is getting less in the Bardia National Park, intermediate areas and community forests. Chief Subedi said that the nature of leopards, lack of food and tigers in the forest area caused them to come out.

The number of leopards in Bardia is not certain . It has not even been calculated . There are 125 tigers in Bardia Park. Ajit Tamba Hamphey, head of National Nature Conservation Fund, Bardia, said that a study has revealed that along with the lack of food, the problem leopards left in the Katarniaghat reserve by the Indian forest staff have entered the villages of Bardia.

It is estimated that there are 3 to 4 leopards in the community forest near the Krishnasar conservation area. That leopard has killed more than a dozen Krishnasaras every year. Five years ago, Bardia Park darted a leopard from this area and released it in the park. Ashok Ram, the head of Bardia Park, said that leopards leave the forest and enter the slums because of their diet. The Division Forest Office has tried to control the leopard by keeping cages with goats. The leopard has not been able to come under control in the cage that has been kept for a month .
