Last year on February 28, the Karnali bridge in Chisapani was repaired after a fire broke out in the stead cable. 14 cables of the bridge were damaged when the truck caught fire.

Division Road Office Nepalgunj is conducting one-way traffic and repairing it. Narendra Bhatt, Head of Divisional Road Office, Nepalgunj, said that the repair work which started three weeks ago is to be completed within the next week. He said that it will cost more than 10 lakh rupees to complete the

repairs. Four technicians including two from the builders and the head of the road office have been deployed for the maintenance.

The road office has informed that the bridge department has prepared to paint the steel part of the state-of-the-art Karnali bridge in Chisapani, which was inaugurated on 28th November 2015.

This single-tower, asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge is 500 meters long.

It has 325 meters on the west side of the tower and 175 meters on the east side. The height of the tower is 120 meters. The

foundation is 13 meters deep, while the bridge deck consists of precast concrete slabs over trusses connected to steel slams. This double lane bridge is 11.3 meters wide.

Karnali Bridge, which was started in 2044, was completed in seven years. Technicians and workers from 14 countries including Nepal, America, India, Thailand, Sri Lanka were involved in the construction of the bridge.

At that time, 36 crore 24 lakh rupees were spent on the construction of the bridge. Three decades after the construction of the bridge, the painting has not been done. The annual flood has washed away dozens of cement blocks under the bridge.

When the block is washed away, there is an increased risk of the river overturning the edge of the bridge. Similarly, in the encounter between the security forces and the Maoists on 7th January 2062, around 80-90 bullets hit most of the sensitive parts of the bridge.

Many parts of the bridge are rusted and the nuts are loose, causing the tower to shake when the vehicle moves. About 1000 small and big vehicles are operated from this bridge daily.
