A celebration is being held today at Jitgarhi in Butwal, Rupandehi to commemorate the day when the Nepali Army defeated the British Army. During the Nepal-British war, there is a history of the Nepalese army defeating the British army at Jitgarhi in Butwal.

After the defeat, the British army came back to occupy Nepal. The Nepalese army led by Colonel Ujirsinh Thapa won victory over the British army on 7th Baisakh, 1872 in Jitgarhi fort. On the same occasion, Butwal sub-metropolitan city has been celebrating Jitgarhi festival. Various cultural programs have been organized on the occasion of

festival. Patriotic singing and dancing will be presented by various artists in the festival program to be organized for the promotion of Butwal sub-metropolis. Jitgarhi festival is about to be celebrated in the Jitgarhi fort, which has a glorious history, giving a glimpse of the victory of the war.

vs. On the 7th of Baisakh, 1872, the then Sen Raja of Palpa fought against the British army in the Jitgarhi fort of Butwal. Colonel Ujirsinh Thapa's army led by making a tunnel from Nuwakot hill and built a fort near Tinau river in Butwal. The same army started from 1871 after facing repeated attacks. Victory was won on 7th Baisakh, 1872. After defeating the British army, this fort is named Jitgarhi . At that time, there was a war against the British in seven places of Nepal including Nuwakot Gadhi, Simran Gadhi.

Every year there is a tradition of going on foot from Gorkha and coming to Jitgarhi in Butwal on the 7th of Baisakh with a grand ceremony. On the occasion of Jitgarhi Utsav today, Jitgarhi Utsav main ceremony will be held to welcome the team of Nepali Army who came on foot from Gorkha and conclude the walk, Khelraj Pandey informed. The army team marched from Gorkha via Tanahun, Syangja, Palpa and has now arrived at the historic Jitgarhi fort.
