District Police Office, Banke has arrested 56 defendants who have been absconding for a long time after committing various crimes from different places. Five years, seven months and 29 days of imprisonment and a fine of 18 lakh 86 thousand have been imposed on them.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Banke District Police Office, Deepak Patli, the absconding defendants are accused of extortion, duty killing, drug dealing, dishonored checks, polygamy and other cases. Earlier last February, the police had arrested 65 fugitive defendants.
'There are accused who have been judged by the court and only a few cases have been tried,' he said. During the month of March, during the arrest of 56 absconding defendants, the police recovered illegal goods worth Rs 3 lakh 59 thousand 350 from India by evading customs.
Police deputy superintendent Patli said that three people were arrested for being involved in illegal smuggling and a jeep and three motorcycles used in transportation were seized and sent to the Nepalgunj customs office for necessary action.
One hundred and ninety-three people have been arrested and brought to justice in a case registered in the month of March. Three thousand seven hundred and twenty drivers of recovery vehicles were prosecuted and 29 lakh 58 thousand revenue was collected. During that period, seven people died and 120 people were injured due to 71 vehicle accidents.
Six motorcycles and 26 smart mobile phones that were lost and stolen from different places were found and handed over to the concerned people.
