After the use of pesticides started to have adverse effects on human health and the environment, six points of commitment have been issued. The Health Office issued a 6-point commitment letter on Monday to stop the use of pesticides.
Experts are of the opinion that the pesticides used during the promotion and production of food products are affecting human health as well as harming the environment.
Doctors argue that when farmers use pesticides without covering their bodies, they are prone to diseases like cancer. On the other hand, the consumers are forced to consume pesticides during sales and distribution without waiting for the waiting period for using pesticides on food items including vegetables.
In order to minimize pesticides in the district, it is mentioned in the letter of commitment that the health office will fully follow the waiting time while using pesticides, use safe clothes while using pesticides and only take technical advice before using pesticides.
Similarly, to raise awareness about the effects of pesticide use on public health, as incidents such as suicide using pesticides are increasing in the society, pesticides are kept in a safe place and businessmen are committed to sell and distribute only after ensuring the purpose. The vegetable farmers of all the eight municipalities in the district have signed the letter of commitment and agreed.
