Parks and river problem solving suggestions
The report of the recommendation committee formed from the second joint meeting of Chief Ministers of Lumbini Province and Sudurpaschim Province has been submitted to the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chetnarayan Acharya.
The coordinator of the committee, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development An Prasad Neupane and Member Secretary Sushil Basnet handed over the report to Chief Minister Acharya, Principal Secretary Baburam Adhikari on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Acharya said that he will work in coordination with the federal government to solve the problems in the national park area and the river area. The recommendation committee's report concluded that a multifaceted strategy should be adopted for the overall protection, sustainable use and management of the Karnali River region. Acharya said that he will continue to cooperate with the relevant stakeholders for its effective implementation.
In the report of the suggestion committee, it is mentioned that a special plan should be put forward to keep the flow of the Karnali river balanced. It is mentioned that about 8 lakh 18 thousand 750 cubic meters of river material should be removed from nine places where the water flow has been blocked in coordination with the Bardia National Park area, and for this, permission from the federal government should be started immediately.
In order to manage the flow of the river, it is mentioned in the report that there is a need to manage the flow towards Kailali and stop the uncontrolled mining. The subject of continuous monitoring of the area to be excavated, and immediate action should be taken in case of excavation against the standards, and necessary structures should be built to control the deepening river level under the Chisapani bridge.
In order to strengthen the water resources management of the Rani Jamra Kularia irrigation project area, it is emphasized that a reservoir dam or structure should be built to increase the flow of water towards the Geruwa River, and the necessary budget for this work should be managed and implemented through the Water Resources and Irrigation Division Office.
It is mentioned that a detailed study and survey should be done to find a long-term solution for the use and protection of the riverine resources of the Karnali River. It is mentioned in the report that a comprehensive master plan should be prepared so that Geruwa, Rajapur area of Bardia and Lamkichuha, Janaki, Tikapur area of Kailali will be a model of human civilization, environment and development.
