Lumbini Buddhist University has announced the establishment of a study center in California, USA. A study center is going to be established in California to conduct post-graduate level and short-term educational programs under the Faculty of Buddhist Studies.
University Vice-Chancellor Prada Suvarnalal Bajracharya announced the establishment of a study center in California during a program held in Lumbini today. In a program organized to award certificates to students who came from California for short-term Buddhist studies, he said that the admission process would begin in a few weeks.
University has entered into a collaboration agreement with Enlighten International Zen Meditation Center for conducting Buddhist studies educational programs in California. 25 students from the same center have come to Lumbini for a short term educational program. They have taken two credit classes.
On that occasion, the registrar of the university, Dr. Tilakram Acharya, said that cooperation agreements with more than 40 organizations have been made for the expansion of international relations. He said that the university, which was established according to the announcement of the International Buddhist Conference, will establish study centers to spread Buddhist education around the world.
Dr. Manikaratna Shakya, Dean of the Faculty of Buddhist Studies, said that the attraction of foreign students in short-term educational programs is increasing. He thanked the American students for choosing Lumbini Buddhist University for Buddhist studies. Earlier, a team of Chinese students did a short Buddhist study.
The head nun of the International Zen Meditation Center California, Xue Ne, said that they are excited to collaborate with Lumbini Buddhist University. She said that they will work together for the development of Buddhist education.
Dr. Sagar Neupane, associate professor of the university who facilitated the operation of the short-term educational program, said that the attraction of foreign students has been seen in the short-term program. He said that it would be beneficial for the scholars visiting Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, to take short-term educational programs.
University has announced various short-term academic programs under the Faculty of Buddhist Studies. Dean Shakya said that the educational programs from three days to 15 days were approved by the academic council and implemented. He said that short-term Buddhist studies can be done individually and in groups. A course has been designed with Buddhist studies, Chinari of Lumbini, Vipassana meditation.
