Today Magar communities across the country are celebrating the 43rd National Magar Unity Day. Conferences, discussions, art, culture, and cultural tableau performances are being held at various local levels in the districts where the Magar community resides in the mid-hills as well as in the Terai.
Shanti Zhendi Thapa, president of Nepal Magar Sangh Palpa, said that on the occasion of Magar Ekta Diwas, district, city and village level Magar associations as well as organizations associated with Magars living abroad will organize various programs.
According to the National Census 2078, the population of Magar community in Nepal is 20 lakh 13 thousand 498. This is 6.9 percent of the total population. On the occasion of the 43rd Magar Unity Day, two municipalities and eight local levels of Magar-dominated Palpa have declared a public holiday. Raman Bahadur Thapa, head of Rampur Municipality, said that the public holiday was given as the Magar community celebrates the 15th of February as Magar Unity Day and celebration.
All offices under the local level, Santosh Lal Shrestha, Mayor of Tansen, said that it has been decided to give public holidays to educational institutions, health institutions and other public associations. On the occasion of Ekta Diwas, programs including tableau performances based on Magari culture have been held at various places in Tansen and Rampur municipalities.
Palpa's Nisdi, Mathagadhi, Tinau, Bagnaskali, Rainadevi Chhahara, Rambha, Ribdikot, Purvkhola Rural Municipality have given one day local holiday.
