The International Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989 and the Act on Children 2075 consider children up to 18 years of age. Section 173 of the Criminal Code Act 2074 has a provision that child marriage should not be performed. In sub-section (1) there is a provision that no one shall marry or arrange marriage before the age of twenty years. Sub-section (2) provides that a marriage contrary to sub-section (1) is automatically annulled. In sub-section (3), there is a provision for a person who commits an offense under sub-section (1) to be imprisoned for up to three years and fined up to thirty thousand rupees .
Article 70 of the Civil Civil (Code) Act, 2074 also has a provision that twenty years should be completed as the age for marriage. Similarly, child marriage is considered as a crime against children in section 66 of the Children Act 2075. In sub-section 3 of section 72, there is a provision of imprisonment up to three years and a fine of up to 75 thousand rupees if such an offense is committed.
Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city of the district has also been declared child-friendly two years ago. In the Child Friendly Local Government Declaration Procedure 2079 issued by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, there is a provision that the local level can be declared child friendly after completing 51 indicators, including no child marriage. In the Child-Friendly Local Government Implementation Guide 2078 issued by the Ministry, the target has been taken to declare all the local levels of the country child-friendly by 2087 and 2088.
