Air service has been stopped at the Resunga airport here for a month. The air service in the district has been stopped for a month after the grounding of two TwinOtter aircraft belonging to the Nepal Air Service Corporation (Nepal Airlines).
Suman Thapa, Head of Nepal Air Service Corporation Resunga Station, said that the passengers here are in trouble after the suspension of air services. After the corporation started commercial flights in Gulmi from 29th Baisakh 2080, the air service came into operation in the district. After the corporation started commercial flights in the district, it had been flying three times a week.
Due to the increasing number of passengers, the corporation increased the number of flights at that time and was flying up to four times a week. Since the corporation's ships have been grounded from time to time, air flights have been completely stopped in the district twice and once a week.
The airport station chief Thapa informed that the corporation has only a few twin-engine ships and the service was interrupted after the engines of the ships ran out of cycles. He said that two TwinOtter vessels have been grounded and the maintenance work of the grounded vessel is going on, so it will take some more time to regularize the service in the district.
Lately, the corporation was flying from Resunga Airport only once a week on Thursdays. At Resunga Airport in Gulmi, an 18-seat TwinOtter aircraft of Nepal Air Service Corporation was flying from Kathmandu at 6:30 am and from Resunga airport at 7:30 am.
corporation has determined the fare rate for Kathmandu from Resunga at 7 thousand five hundred rupees and from Resunga to Kathmandu at 7 thousand three hundred rupees. The airport office informed that the flight is being conducted only in the morning due to high air pressure during the afternoon.
There have been 90 one-way flights from here to Kathmandu in a period of 21 months. Station chief Thapa informed that 2,253 passengers have taken the air service from both directions so far.
Recently, with the start of air service, the number of domestic and foreign tourists coming to the district was also increasing. Thapa said that despite the high demand of passengers for air services, the corporation could not operate regular services due to lack of ships.
