6 local levels of Kapilvastu have given holidays to schools after the cold in Terai. A holiday has been given to community, institutional and religious schools run at the local level from Sunday.
Kapilvastu and Shivraj municipalities have given holidays from January 21 to January 4, while Suddhodhan Rural Municipality has given holidays from January 21 to January 29 and Mayadevi Rural Municipality has given holidays from January 21 to January 8. Similarly, Buddhabhumi Municipality has given a holiday from December 21 to January 11 and Yashodhara Rural Municipality has given a holiday from December 21 to January 4.
Kapilvastu Municipal Mayor Sudeep Paudel said that school holidays have been shortened from the winter holidays. The school has been closed after 5/6 days of no sun and severe cold. Hari Parajuli, Head of Education Branch of Kapilvastu Municipality, said that the holiday was given because it is difficult for children to come to school when they are angry till noon.
School has been closed for winter vacation due to heavy rains in Terai and it is difficult to drive school vehicles. After winter, there is not much activity in the main market of the district. Common people are sitting in chokchok with fire. People are huddled indoors. People have not gone out of the house except for essential work. According to the Ramnagar-based Water and Meteorological Department unit, the minimum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and maximum 14 degrees Celsius was measured in the
district on Sunday. Meteorologists have said that when the maximum temperature is low, the cold has increased excessively.
