More Indian tourists come to Lumbini

There has been an increase in the number of tourists visiting Lumbini. Compared to the year 2023, there has been an increase in the number of 173 thousand 366 people in 2024. According to the Lumbini Development Fund, 1172 thousand 304 people visited Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, in 2024.

In the year 2023, 998 thousand 938 people came to Lumbini. The fund has informed that the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Lumbini for the first time after Covid has exceeded 1 million. Before Covid, in 2019, a total of 15 lakh 58 thousand 326 people came to visit Buddha's birthplace. Out of those who came to Lumbini in 2024, there are 759 thousand 990 domestic tourists. Domestic tourists have increased by 15.81 percent compared to the previous year.

The arrival of Indian tourists in Lumbini has set a new record. Last year 3 lakh 889 Indians visited Lumbini. In 2023, 266,510 Indians came to Lumbini, according to the data of the Development Fund. Even though 26,171 people came in 2019 before Covid, the arrival of Indian tourists was less than 200,000 in the previous year.

In 2024, 114,425 tourists from third countries came to Buddha's birthplace, according to the fund. As the arrival of tourists from third countries increased by 46.36 percent, there has been an improvement in the arrival of tourists. In 2023, 76,210 foreign tourists with passports came to Lumbini. Before covid 2019, 1 lakh 74 thousand 15 tourists from third countries came to Lumbini.

Among the tourists from third countries coming to Lumbini in 2024, Sri Lankan tourists are the most. According to the fund, 23 thousand 569 Sri Lankans came last year. Similarly, 21 thousand 496 people from Thailand and 13 thousand 12 people from China have come to Lumbini. Similarly, 10,517 people came from Myanmar, 8,500 from Vietnam and 4,646 from South Korea, according to the Lumbini Development Fund.
