Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has said that the government will now provide free medicines to sickle cell anemia patients.

Inaugurating the Haemoglopathy Ward and Operation Theater in the newly constructed building of Bheri Hospital in Nepalganj on Monday, Minister Paudel also said that India is going to help the government to provide free medicines to sickle cell patients.

During his visit to India, Minister Poudel said that he had proposed to the Indian counterpart for the necessary drug support for sickle cell patients and had received a positive response from there. Let's hope, the medicine will be received immediately.' 

He also assured that the ministry will plan to screen children as soon as they are born to prevent sickle cell anemia from being passed on. Minister Paudel also said that the government will provide the medicines required for sickle cell patients to the hospitals operating the sickle cell day care ward and from there the patients will get them easily.

According to Minister Paudel, kidney transplant services have also been started in Bheri Hospital as part of the government's plan to expand human organ transplant services in all federal hospitals. Dr. Shrestha, Director of Human Organ Transplantation Center, said that Human Organ Transplantation Center provides technical support for kidney service operation at Bheri Hospital.
