Karna Bahadur Karki, the former Central Vice Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, passed away on Saturday. He is the founding editor of Lumbini Rashtriya Dainik published from Butwal.
70-year-old Karki, who was suffering from diabetes and kidney disease for a long time, passed away at Palpa Tansen Dhubaghat. He was preparing for a kidney transplant . He has a wife Bhagwati, daughters Niru, Banju and son Saroj. The younger son died a few years ago .
After becoming active in the anti-panchayat system movement, he started journalism from Palpa after the 2036 referendum. Karki joined Jamarko, Jhilko and Deshantar Weekly and did journalism. In the year 2045 Karki started the publication of Daily Lumbini .
Being a person known to be active in the anti-panchayat movement, after the then district administration did not allow him to register a newspaper in Rupandehi, he registered daily Lumbini with the help of Bhai Krishna Bahadur Karki in Parasi of Nawalparasi.
Chairman of Siddharth Publications Pvt. Ltd., the publishing house of Dainik Lumbini, Mohan Chapagai, issued a condolence statement and mentioned that the Dainik Lumbini family was shocked and saddened by the death of founder editor Karki.
Journalist Madanlal Paudyal of Rupandehi, who was a contemporary of Karki, said that Karki was a brave and fearless journalist who stood up against injustice, inconsistency and in pro-people journalism. Ramraj Pokharel, president of Nepal Journalist Federation, said that his family is preparing to cremate him at Magarghat in Yogikuti, Butwal on Saturday.
