District Administration Office Bardia has tightened the security arrangements at the Nepal-India border post. The local administration has instructed the police to tighten security checks to control illegal drug trafficking from India.
Chief District Officer Rudradevi Sharma said that the security agencies have been directed to stop drug trafficking by mobilizing more manpower at Ganeshpur and Futaha checkpoints in the district. She said that a search operation will be conducted in possible areas including border crossings. A three-month action plan has been implemented from August to effectively control the increase in drugs including brown sugar in Bardia.
The Indian border crossing with Bardia is 83 km long. Baghaiyatal rural municipality, Gulria, Bansgarhi and Madhuvan municipalities have the highest number of drug traffickers. Superintendent of Police Pravin Dhital released the data of 91 people including 3 women from this checkpoint in the financial year 079/080, 207 people including 5 women in the financial year 080/081 and 25 people with drugs brown sugar in the current financial year.
