The work on the Arun Corridor Road Project, which is under construction with the aim of connecting Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha with the Terai in the shortest distance, has progressed.
This 65-kilometer-long expressway will connect Sunsari's Koshi Bridge at Chatara to Mangmaya Danda on the border of Mahalaxmi and Pakhribas municipalities in Dhankuta.
Under the project, the Chatara-Mangmaya section has been divided into three parts and a contract has been awarded for the construction of 45 kilometers of road at a cost of about one billion rupees. Of these, the initial track has been opened in 35 kilometers, and work is currently underway to expand it to a width of 10 meters, informed project chief Manishman Shakya.
According to him, the work on the remaining road will be taken forward after the location (axis) and design of the main bridge to be built over the Tamor River are finalized. He said that coordination is being done with the Bridge Division of the Road Department for a detailed study for this.
'This road is 65 kilometers long from Chataraghat to Mangmaya Danda. The contract for opening the track for 45 kilometers has been managed. We have already opened the initial track for 35 kilometers. Now we are expanding it to a width of 10 meters. The remaining work is planned to be carried out after Shrawan after the design and alignment of the Tamor Bridge is completed,' Shakya said.
Motorable concrete bridges will have to be constructed at 11 places along the entire 65-kilometer road of the project, including the Tamor River. Bridges of 20 to 40 meters in length will be constructed at places including Tamor, Adheri, Chamlang, Dhuseni, Mangsuwa, Sunakhani Khahare, Lede, Muga and Nibukhola. The project has stated that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of some bridges is being prepared.

However, the project has stated that there has been a delay in opening the track in some sections of the road due to the houses and huts of the locals. The project has also stated that coordination is being done with the locals, local levels and the Dhankuta administration to resolve these problems.
Dhankuta Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma said that the administration is continuously facilitating the construction work so that there are no obstacles. 'General problems have been seen in some places under the jurisdiction of the road. We are coordinating and monitoring regularly with the project and the construction company to resolve them and complete the construction work on time,' she said.
Meanwhile, a team of security officers led by Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma has monitored the project site. The team has discussed the progress of the project, problems seen and solutions with the project and construction company and has directed them not to delay the work.
According to Project Chief Shakya, the process of removing some houses and huts falling within the jurisdiction of the road has also been taken forward. He said that once these problems are resolved, the remaining construction work will be taken forward more rapidly.
After the construction is completed, the distance of about 125 kilometers that passengers traveling to the Terai from Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha currently have to travel via Leguwaghat, Ghorlikharka, Pakhribas, Hile, Dhankuta, Mulghat, Bhedetar will be reduced to 65 kilometers.
