The Sunsari administration has intensified disaster response preparations as the water flow in the Saptakoshi River increases. In this process, a team of security agencies including Chief District Officer Vasudev Ghimire has conducted an on-site monitoring of the Koshi Barrage.

The water flow in the Koshi Barrage has reached 156,610 cusecs per second, and 20 gates of the barrage have been opened. When the water flow in the Koshi reaches 150,000 cusecs per second, a red light is turned on as a sign of high alert.

After the monitoring, Chief District Officer Ghimire said that a disaster response plan is being implemented in the district, keeping in mind the risks of floods, inundation and erosion. He informed that the responsibilities of all agencies involved in disaster management have been clearly determined and necessary procedures have also been prepared.

He said that the district administration and security agencies are ready for rescue, relief, transfer of the affected people to safe places and rehabilitation if necessary during the rainy season.

Chief District Officer Ghimire informed that the Koshi Barrage Bridge and weak embankment have been repaired and said that if there is erosion or damage to the embankment at any place due to heavy floods, the related projects, district administration and security agencies are ready to be mobilized immediately.

Police Chief Keshav Kumar Thebe of the District Police Office, Sunsari, Deputy Investigation Director of the National Investigation District Office, Sunsari, and representatives of the security agencies participated in the monitoring.
