Dhankuta Prahari has seized 795 kilograms of marijuana and arrested two people along with two vehicles in a single day today.
According to the police, 775 kilograms of marijuana were seized from a mini truck (Ko 1 Kha 4635) heading towards Dharan from Dhankuta in Kolbote, Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality-6 this morning. The truck was found loaded with 25 packets of marijuana at a rate of 31 kilograms per packet, according to the police.
The driver of the truck, Prati Kunwar, who is a permanent resident of Pakhribas Municipality-1 in Dhankuta and currently lives in Apagachhi, Itahari Sub-metropolitan City-1, has been arrested by the police. The driver along with the truck loaded with marijuana is under control and further investigation is underway, according to the District Police Office, Dhankuta.
Similarly, the police have also arrested the driver, Bishesh Rai, along with 20 kilograms of marijuana being brought from Lumphajung, Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality-7 on a motorcycle (Ba 64 Pa 1435).
Both the arrested persons have been kept at the District Police Office, Dhankuta for necessary investigation and legal action. The recovered truck and motorcycle are also under the control of the police, informed Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Dhankuta, Narayan Ranjitkar.
According to the police, 36 drug-related cases have been registered till Asad 15 of the current fiscal year 2082/83. 57 people have been arrested in these cases. During this period, 1,775 kilograms of marijuana, 25 grams 147 milligrams of brown heroin and 2 lakh 712 pieces of various types of drug-related tablets and capsules have been seized.
To reduce drug addiction, the police have sent 34 people to reform homes and five people have been handed over to their guardians, said Superintendent of Police, Ranjitkar.
In the last fiscal year 2081/82, 57 drug-related cases were registered in Dhankuta. According to the District Police Office, 88 people were arrested in those cases, and 4,197 kilograms of marijuana and 4,098 tablets of various types of narcotics were seized.
