The road has been blocked since last night after a landslide with rocks fell on the Mechi Highway in Rajduwali, Ilam Municipality-9. The Road Division, Ilam, has stated that vehicles have not been able to operate on that section due to the landslide.
Similarly, the road has also been blocked in the border area of Rong Rural Municipality-4 and Jhapa district of Ilam along the Mechi Highway. The Ilam Police has stated that the traffic has been completely blocked after the disco of the wall fell and two trees of Chilaune fell on the road.
Although the work of removing the landslide has started there, it will take time to remove the obstruction in the Rajduwali area, informed Pawan Bhattarai, Chief of the Road Division, Ilam.
The risk of landslides and floods is increasing due to the rain that has been going on since 10 pm on Saturday. Passengers and freight vehicles traveling between the eastern hilly districts and Jhapa have been stranded on the road due to the road blockage.
The administration has urged the public to be vigilant, saying that there is a risk of further landslides due to the continuous rains.
The Rajduwali and Rong sections of the Mechi Highway are the main roads connecting the eastern hills with the Terai, so the road blockage has affected passengers. According to officials, efforts are being made to remove the blockage and resume transportation as soon as the weather improves.
