A teacher has been arrested on charges of beating a 5-year-old boy studying in EkalKG for not knowing how to write.
Sumitra Sendang Nembang of Lungrupa Boarding Academy in Phidim Municipality-14 of Panchthar was arrested on Saturday. According to DSP Anish Kumar Karna of the District Police Office, Panchthar, an investigation has been launched against her for child abuse. Teacher Sendang had severely beaten a boy studying in LKG of the same school last Wednesday for not knowing how to write Kakh and One Two.
The boy, who fell seriously ill after being hit 18 times on the back by the teacher, is being treated at Ganeshman Singh Community Hospital. After the beating, the boy fell ill and his parents took off his clothes and found 18 bruises on his back.
DSP Karna said that preparations are underway to extend the term of the arrested teacher by making her appear before the Panchthar District Court on Sunday. There was pressure to arrest the teacher after the incident of beating the child became public. The school administration, however, has stated that the teacher has been suspended after the incident.
