With the aim of promoting agricultural enterprises and encouraging commercial farming, Mahalaxmi Municipality of Dhankuta has distributed tunnels and plastic ponds to local farmers at 50 percent cost sharing.

The municipality has provided agricultural materials for vegetable farming, nursery management and irrigation facilities to 62 farmers from all 9 wards from the budget received under the equalization grant of the Koshi Province government.

Agricultural materials have been distributed to farmers from Murtidhunga, Marek Katahare, Jitpur, Leguwa and other areas of Mahalaxmi Municipality. The farmers and the municipality have invested Rs 500,000 for agricultural materials.

Mayor Dhruvraj Rayamajhi informed that the goal is to connect farmers with modern agricultural technology and make them self-reliant by increasing production. According to Rayamajhi, the distributed tunnels will facilitate off-season vegetable production and irrigation during dry seasons by collecting rainwater through plastic ponds. The distributed agricultural materials will He said that it would help increase the utilization of cultivable land and reduce the cost of production for farmers.
