An American climber has died in an avalanche while returning from climbing Mount Makalu.

According to DSP Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, 53-year-old American citizen Sally Johanson was seriously injured in an avalanche at an altitude of about 7,200 meters between Camp-3 and Camp-2 of Mount Makalu in the Makalu Rural Municipality-2 area. She died of her injuries at around 8 am on Monday, according to the police.

Information about the incident was received at the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha on Monday afternoon through Roshan Silwal, an employee of Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd., Kathmandu.

According to the police, the police team cannot reach the incident immediately as it is in a very remote area. It is said that it will take about 15 days to reach the place on foot from Makalu.

The District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, has stated that work to collect and understand more details about the incident is ongoing.
