Consumers of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality in Dhankuta have been facing problems due to irregular power supply and low voltage.

Dik Bahadur Giri, a consumer of Chhathar Jorpati-4 Telia, said that he has been facing problems due to irregularities in power supply for a long time. Giri said that even normal household work is being affected due to irregular power supply and low voltage. 'We do not have to run a big industry, but we get electricity that is not even enough to charge our mobile phones,' he complained.

He said that in Legua of Mahalaxmi Municipality, if a house or tree falls on the wires, the lights in Telia go out, and when there is a problem in Okhre, the power supply is disrupted in Majuwa. Meghraj Khatiwada, another consumer of Telia, said that due to irregular supply, there are problems in operating the equipment used in the village. 'Mobiles, refrigerators, TVs are broken, but even agricultural equipment like lawn mowers do not work properly,' he said. He said that this is also affecting the time management of farmers. He said, 'Earlier, there was no electricity. After the electricity came, the problem has only increased.'

He said that daily work is being affected by relying on electricity. He added, 'When there was no electricity, it was fine, now we rely on electricity but it does not work.'

Local consumers say that such a problem exists in areas such as Parevadin, Chulachuli, Okhre, Kajiman, Banchare and Teliya in Chhathar Jorpati. Farmers are particularly affected by the lack of reliable electricity for work such as irrigation, milking, and processing agricultural products.

Bijli Prasad Yadav, head of the Nepal Electricity Authority Dhankuta distribution center, said that the problem is due to wind, old structures and long feeders. According to him, electricity is currently being supplied to the Chhathar Jorpati area through the Mahalaxmi feeder, which has caused tripping and low voltage problems when the load increases. 'When the feeder is long, even a small problem affects a large area,' Yadav said. 'A plan has been made to build a short and separate feeder to solve this.'

According to him, a long-term plan has been put forward to distribute electricity directly from the substation in Dhankuta to the Chhathar Jorpati area. This is expected to reduce tripping, improve voltage and make supply regular, Yadav said. 'We have sent a proposal to the higher authorities for this, work is underway on a long-term solution,' he said. Currently, 26,738 domestic consumers in Dhankuta have received electricity service. But due to the lack of structural improvements, consumers in rural areas are still deprived of getting reliable electricity service.
