The Phaktanglung Rural Municipality has suspended traffic operations to install a bailey bridge over the Tamor River in Sukepani, which connects the Nepal-China border with Tiptala Bhanjyang via Lelep Olangchungola from the district headquarters of Phungling.
The rural municipality has suspended traffic operations on the bridge construction route from Baisakh 11 to 25 after the construction company complained that there was no working environment and that the work was delayed due to the operation of tractors and other transport vehicles.
Rural Municipality Chairman Rajan Limbu said that small vehicles (taxis, jeeps) can be operated as soon as the bridge is installed. However, he said that the bridge has been suspended for 15 days to make it a top priority after the construction company complained that it was not able to carry out regular work while the tractors were running. Chairman Limbu said that the suspension was imposed after creating obstacles.
According to Cheten Sherpa Lama, the chairman of Olangchungola ward of Faktanglung Rural Municipality-7, the Tamor River has to be crossed at three places from Olangchungola to Sukepani. ‘A humpipe has been placed at a place called Dobato.’ Cheten said, ‘Since there is a wide space at a place called Jonggin, it can be made to operate transportation by opening a canal,’ Cheten said, ‘Since Sukepani has a narrow space and a lot of water flow, it is necessary to build a bridge.’ Cheten said that after the construction of a bailey bridge here, even taxis can reach Tiptala Bhanjyang.
Locals say that the road from Olangchungola to Tiptala Bhanjyang needs to be repaired at places. Although the Taplejung Concern Center Kathmandu has organized a Tiptala tour program on the occasion of the Koshi Visit Year, the tour schedule has been pushed back due to this bridge.
It takes only three days to walk from Sukepani to Tiptala, while it takes 5/6 hours by car. Locals complain that the connection of the bailey bridge over the Tamor River connecting Taplejung and Panchthar districts was delayed even though it was brought here last year.
