Stakeholders have emphasized the need to link Dalit women with entrepreneurship to empower them economically and socially.
Participants in the Dalit Women Empowerment Program, which began in Dhankuta on Monday with the support of Dhankuta Municipality and organized by the Dalit Women's Association Dhankuta, expressed this view.
The speakers at the program mentioned that Dalit women are deprived of opportunities because they are confined to their homes and now they need to be linked to entrepreneurship through various skill-based and employment-based training.
Secretary of the Dalit Women's Association Dhankuta, Kopila Shankar, said that Dalit women who have been subjected to injustice and suffering are further behind because they cannot speak out openly. She said that most women have become self-reliant due to their tendency to depend on men.
Association President Laxmi Pariyar emphasized that Dalit women should speak up for their rights. She said that women are also behind due to lack of information about their rights in the constitution. 'It is necessary to be aware of what rights are available and move forward strongly,' she said.
The idea was expressed in the program that the support of the non-Dalit community is also necessary to connect Dalit women to entrepreneurship. In addition, it was emphasized that young leadership should be developed among Dalit women and encouraged to move forward without fear.
Similarly, although incidents of sexual violence and rape are on the rise, concern has been expressed that many incidents remain hidden because victims do not raise their voices. The speakers urged to speak openly against such incidents and move forward for justice.
