A person has been arrested for severely torturing a horse in Cholung Park, a tourist area in Basantapur, Tehrathum.
Tek Bahadur Limbu, 59, of Laligurans Municipality-3, has been arrested. The police took the person into custody after a video of him beating a horse used to transport tourists went viral on social media. DSP Laxman Oli, Chief of the District Police Office, informed that the person was taken into custody and an investigation was underway.
He said that the arrested Limbu has been remanded in custody by the District Administration Office, Tehrathum for five days.
Laligurans Municipality has stated that it has drawn serious attention to the incident. According to the municipality's spokesperson Devendra Khadka, legal action has been taken as the person involved in the incident was ignored despite demands for an explanation. He said, 'An explanation was sought from the person involved in the incident, but after they did not submit it, the necessary legal action was taken.' The municipality has warned against repeating such inhumane activities and urged everyone to follow animal rights and animal welfare standards. It has also been stated in a press release that if such activities are observed, they should report it to the relevant body.
