Dhankuta Municipality is collecting data to run a program to improve the livelihood of the extremely poor and marginalized citizens.

The municipality has launched a campaign with the aim of improving the socio-economic conditions of the landless Aathpariya community and families in the poverty index.

According to the information officer of the municipality, the data collection has been started under a plan to identify the landless, poor and marginalized communities and connect them to entrepreneurship. The official said that after the data collection, the beneficiaries will be made entrepreneurs by providing them with 12 different types of enterprise and skill development training.

The program will be run on the basis of the poor family identity cards distributed by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation in 2079 BS. The municipality has stated that the program will be launched targeting the landless, extremely poor families and the marginalized Aathpariya community on the same basis.

Currently, data is being collected in all 10 wards of Dhankuta Municipality. Based on the collected details, the municipality plans to involve citizens below the poverty line in local resource-based enterprises. Training will be conducted in 12 categories including handicrafts, local products, driving, cooking, tourism, beauty parlor, and public service preparation as needed.

Similarly, preparations are being made to distribute advanced varieties of seeds, plants, and tools and equipment to engage in agriculture and animal husbandry. After the data collection is completed, the municipality will form a beneficiary group and implement the program, he said.

A budget of Rs 16.5 million has been allocated in the current fiscal year to operate the program. The amount received from the special grant of the federal government aims to connect the landless, extremely poor, and marginalized communities to income generation, said the information officer.
