The District Disaster Management Committee, Dhankuta, has decided to remove trees at risk from windstorms in various parts of the district.
A meeting of the committee held at the District Administration Office, Dhankuta on Friday decided to remove 531 risky trees located in the Dhankuta-Hile section of the Koshi Highway, government office premises and residential areas.
The trees, identified and recorded by the Division Forest Office, Dhankuta, are located in the Salleri National Forest, around the Koshi Highway, Nepali Army's Bhim Dal Battalion, 2nd Battalion Base, Hile, District Ayurveda Treatment Center and Public Service Commission.
According to the committee's chairman and Chief District Officer, Binod Kumar Khadka, the risky trees located in the Chautara, Bisaunas, roadsides, water sources, religious places and other public places outside the forest area can cause damage to people and property if not removed immediately, so it has been decided to remove them as per the rules.
The details of the risky trees were presented in the meeting by Assistant Divisional Officer of the Division Forest Office, Dharmanath Yadav. There is a provision that such trees located in government and institutional premises outside the forest area should be removed after evaluation by a forest service technician and recommendation of a committee comprising representatives of the local level and survey office under the coordination of the head of the concerned office.
Assistant Divisional Forest Officer Dharmanath Yadav of the Divisional Forest Office, Dhankuta said that the risky trees will be identified and evaluated on the recommendation of the concerned office and level and then the cutting order will be issued. The windstorm that struck on the night of last Chaitra 2 caused major physical damage when trees fell on roads, public offices and private residential areas in Dhankuta.
The incident also damaged the structures of the District Ayurveda Health Center, Dhankuta Multiple Campus, Civil Service Residential Building, Provincial Museum and District Hospital. Due to the windstorm accompanied by rain, the building of the District Ayurveda Health Center, Dhankuta, when the trees fell on the assembly hall, free medicine room, OPD building, office chief's room, compound wall, patient room and other physical structures.
Similarly, when a tree fell on the student accommodation building of the civil service residential school, the iron railing of the trust, its roof, waiting room and electrical equipment were damaged. Similarly, the roof of the library building of the Dhankuta Multiple Campus, the academic building, the office of the campus head, the kitchen and veranda of the Bhrikuti women's hostel, etc. were damaged.
