The Infrastructure Development Office, Dhankuta, has mobilized supervisors for the regular maintenance of three multi-year roads that have been completed.
According to Uttam Narayan Kharel, acting chief of the Infrastructure Development Office, Dhankuta, on Thursday, six supervisors were appointed, two for the 23.5-kilometer road connecting Terhathum via Hatiya-Tangkhuwa-Teliya-Parewa, two for the 10-kilometer section of the Guthitar-Baghkhor-Chhidi road, and two for the 10-kilometer section of the Hile-Uttarapani-Chhintang road.
Due to the lack of regular maintenance on these roads, which have been handed over to the provincial government, problems such as blocked drains, collapsing walls, and covering the road with bushes have been seen for a long time. This has not only made it difficult for traffic to operate but also increased the risk of accidents. Kharel said that they should clear the bushes around the road, repair and clean drains, culverts and bridges, remove small landslides, construct unpaved drains, and organize warning signs. The office has stated that necessary safety equipment including khurpa, helmet, raincoat, gumboot, gloves, glasses and first aid supplies have been provided for this.
The road guards will receive a minimum daily wage of Rs 760 for 16 to 26 days per month based on their work evaluation. They have also been provided with accident insurance of up to Rs 700,000. With the provision of road guards, it is expected that the roads will now be regularly cleaned and repaired, damage caused during the rainy season can be managed immediately, and vehicle movement will become safer and easier.
