Windstorm causes over Rs 12 million worth of damage in Udayapur, 2 dead

The District Police Office has stated that the storm caused damage worth Rs 12.66 million in Udayapur. According to the details collected by the office, the storm damaged 135 structures including schools, community buildings and private houses in 6 local levels of the district. The most damage was to private houses. The office stated that two schools, five community buildings and 128 houses were damaged.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Niranjan Thapa, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Udayapur, said that the roofs of all the structures were partially or completely blown off. He said that it took three days to collect the damage details as there was a lot of loss of life and property in the district.

63 in Katari Municipality, 32 in Tapli, 25 in Limchungbul, 4 in Udayapurgadhi, 2 in Rautamai and 2 in Chaudandigadi, causing damage worth Rs 12.43 million. Most of the houses were wooden with zinc roofs and some were made of stone, clay, bamboo and thatched roofs. 

According to Kedarman Dong, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Area Police Office, Katari, 64-year-old Birendra Chaudhary of Tinkunechowk, Katari-5, and 49-year-old Minamaya Tamang of Thaliatar, Katari-8, died due to the wind and rain.  46-year-old Lila Bahadur Danuwar and 20-year-old Kamal Kumari Magar were seriously injured.  Kamal Kumari has been taken to Kathmandu for further treatment.
