The office, which was established with the aim of directly coordinating with the provincial government and listening to the complaints of the people, has now become useless.
What you should know
The Chief Minister's Liaison Office established here has become deserted. The office opened by the then Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai has become deserted. The air-conditioned office, cabinet hall, and tables and chairs have been wasted as no one lives here. The doors of the office are closed most of the time.
The movement of service recipients is zero due to the absence of political office bearers and employees. The then Chief Minister Rai inaugurated the office in Baisakh 2076. The office was opened in the old administration building to reduce the dissatisfaction of the residents after the protest against the decision to make the old regional Biratnagar the provincial capital. At that time, the locals had protested demanding that Dhankuta be made the provincial capital. The office, which was established with the aim of direct coordination with the provincial government and listening to the grievances of the people, has now become useless.
It is being run by one office assistant. There is no presence of other employees. Among the Chief Ministers appointed after the establishment of Koshi Province, Rai was the only one to come here. Rajendra Rai, who later became the Chief Minister, came to the office once to attend a program. Another Chief Minister Kedar Karki had held a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The then Chief Ministers Uddhav Thapa, Bhim Acharya and the current Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki have not set foot in the office.
Koshi Province Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Poudel said that although he had heard about the existence of a liaison office, he did not know much about it. ‘I have heard that it is called the Chief Minister’s Liaison Office for the preservation of the building,’ he said. ‘My friends also said that the quarters were removed. If there is a problem, I will move in.’ He also did not want to provide information about the staff positions in the liaison office.
An assistant at the office said that she is alone at the moment and does not know about other employees. When contacted on the government number in the name of Rupa Sunuwar, the Chief Minister’s Office’s complaint hearing officer, the phone did not pick up. Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki's press advisor, Bikram Luitel, said the Chief Minister is interested in operating the office.
